NVQ’S – TRADE, SUPERVISOR
&MANAGEMENT
Job-role specific NVQ’s are used to demonstrate ‘occupational competence’ and are needed prior to a candidate being able to gain a Skilled Worker CSCS card.
Build UK Contractors, formerly members of the UKCG United Kingdom Contractor Group, now insist that everyone working on their sites holds (or is working towards) a CSCS card that is specific to his/her job role – whether they’re a Groundworker, Steelfixer, Site Foreman or Contracts Manager – everyone needs to hold sufficient evidence that they can safely carry out the role they’re employed to do, and that’s where NVQ’s and the CSCS carding scheme comes into play.
All trade NVQ’s are delivered via the OSAT ‘On Site Assessment & Training’ route, which is typically over 2-4 site visits subject to the candidate’s experience, evidence held on record and of course the intensity of the qualification they’re undertaking. Over the course of the qualification evidence is collated by the candidate and/or assessor in order to build a portfolio meeting the criteria outlined by the awarding body NOCN, Proqual or SQA.
The qualifications available for construction workers range from Level 1 all the way to Level 7, Level 1 being for Labourers and Level 7 Senior Construction Managers.

1. Observation of performance by the assessor
2. Witness Testimony or Testimonies by an expert witness/witnesses
